January has always been a symbolic month for people, especially for small business owners. It’s the perfect time to reflect on the previous year (although I know we all want to forget 2020). It’s also the perfect time to set new expectations to reach for the new year.

Well, allow me to help you get on track to achieving your writing goals for your business today! Before setting any specific goals, I want you to commit to one action in 2021: Building your mentality to write for your business.

This time, though, I’m going to pave the path of knowledge and actionable steps for you all to walk down. Before I give you all the golden nuggets, you have to understand the deeper concept behind having the mentality to write. Here we go!

Writing Isn’t An Easy Task

I’m going to lay some tough love on you for a moment, so get prepared. First, there is more to writing than you may think. Depending on the process you use to create your written content, there’s always plenty of effort to make it impactful.

One way to make writing easier is to prep yourself mentally, physically, and emotionally. However, let’s dive a little deeper into what it takes to mentally and emotionally prepare to write. We will come back to physically preparing at a later time.

Realistically, being mentally and emotionally ready to write works hand in hand when you maneuver them correctly. When you’re emotionally available to begin writing for your business, your mentality can begin to clear. That way, you won’t have any issues connecting to your topic and clearly spreading your message.

Stop And Go Traffic

I always love to compare the mental preparation of writing to stop and go traffic. It’s mainly a creative way to bring real-life scenarios to a topic that requires a unique touch to understand. Anyway, here are the reasons why it’s similar to traffic:

  • When your brain is clear, and your emotions are in check, the roads are clear. This allows for your thoughts to roam and flow to help maximize your writing efforts freely.
  • When your brain is jumbled, and you’re feeling stressed, anxious, etc.,  the roads are busy. As a result, your thoughts are becoming backed up and no ideas will come out clearly.
  • When you’re brain is shutting down, it’s similar to an accident on the road. From that point, no thoughts are flowing through your bran at all and you’re stuck with no ideas to write.

Look, I’m going to tell you this as a food for thought. If your mind is not prepared to write about a specific topic, then you’re going to struggle to create written content. Don’t be the business owner who has to force written content! Not only will your content not sound genuine, but it will send off a rather confusing message they will immediately disconnect from.

Don’t worry, though! I will be providing some tips and tricks to truly prepare your mental space for writing. Stay tuned for more to come soon.
