For those of you who have been following me for a while, you would know how much I love dropping knowledge. Anything that I either know about writing or have learned from writing will translate to my small business owners out there. After all, what kind of small business freelance writer would I be if I didn’t?

Today’s blog post topic is no exception, especially since I’ve been talking about it since October. The holidays are quickly approaching, and it’s time to plan your writing. If you haven’t already started doing that, then you’re waaay behind, my friends. Luckily, I’m here to explain further why it’s important to prepare your written content weeks (and even months) before the holidays.

Get Your Audience Thinking

Before anyone takes the time to purchase from a business, they want to feel what the business is all about. Therefore, they must know what you’re offering to them ahead of time. Since most people receive their information online (websites, Instagram pages, etc.), you have to begin to get their minds wondering early.

So…when is the right time to start planning and posting this holiday written content? Well, it all depends on the holidays that you plan on making sales/offers. If you plan to implement special offers for all the major fall and winter holidays (Halloween, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Christmas, New Year’s Eve/Day), the earlier your plan will yield better results.

You should also base your written content for the holidays on your customer base. For instance, most consumers will begin their holiday shopping as early as October (and sometimes even September). Therefore, it’s important to begin thinking of your written content for these special days as early as late August to early September. It’s even more crucial to prepare your written content earlier than anticipated because of the major shift to online shopping that consumers will partake. It would help if you took advantage of this opportunity, too.

It’s November, everyone, so it’s time to prepare for your next round of written content for Thn=anksgiving, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday. Have you begun your planning and spreading the word?

Saves You The Headache

Look, let’s face the facts: One of the most stressful parts of ANY business owner’s lifecycle is the holidays. You’re going to have to order more inventory, understand technological components, and much more! Wouldn’t it be great if your written content was well taken care of in advance so you can focus on the more time-consuming aspects?

Planning your written content allows you to save on time needed to run other parts of your business. It certainly doesn’t hurt to take some time out of your schedule to sit down and think about what information to provide for your audience, how to promote your products/services, etc. Then, once it’s time to put everything into action, you’re already set and prepared for the big rush coming your way!

Well, what’s next after planning and creating your written content? It’s time to save them and create a schedule for posting! Whether you have social media captions, blog posts, or newsletters, there’s always the right time to send out your advertisements and content. If you have the time (I commend you), you can manually post your content in your desired location. However, if you’re a busy body (like me), then perhaps it’s time to invest in some automatic scheduling apps. Here are a few I’m currently using or have used in the past:

  • Planoly: One of my all-time favorite apps for planning my posts. It’ll allow you to plan plenty of posts ahead of time, and if they meet the requirements, the posts will automatically post on their own.
  • Later: A planning app similar to Planoly. I actually used this app before I was introduced to Planoly, and it’s a good one as well. One of my fellow Girl CEOs also mentioned her satisfaction with this app, so choose one that works best for you!
  • ConvertKit: This platform is one that most people use to plan their email marketing content. If you have information that you’d like to send to your subscribers, this is a good platform as well.

Allows For Better Organization/Planning

One of the best ways to prepare for a profitable holiday season is by organizing and planning your daily operations effectively. Through having your written content already thought of and planned out, you will ultimately have a business that will stand tall with every holiday that comes about.

Think about it this way: Without the written components of your business, there would be no clear understanding of your organization’s overall mission and vision. Therefore, people will not fully connect with your business/brand, which will result in them not shopping with you for the holidays. We don’t want that, right.

Therefore, it’s time to organize your holiday planning around your written content. Take the time to analyze your audiences, what they’re looking for, and how you can cater to them for the holidays. Then, you can plan your written content accordingly to get fully organized for the holidays!

Now, it’s shameless plug time! I understand that not everyone is good at writing. Luckily, that’s where small business freelance writers, such as myself, come in to help you fully prepare for the holidays! If you find that you need extra help for the holiday season, please visit the Get In Touch tab on my website and send me a quick message. I’d be more than happy to help you out.

Also, be sure to leave any questions or comments underneath this blog post! I will answer and address each to the best of my ability.
